Community development and national integration are fundamental to human survival. The challenge for development processes in South Africa has been the capacity to consolidate all perspectives and initiatives into a comprehensive community development approach that is inclusive, integrated, coherent and sustainable. This integrative community development intervention strategy acts as the foundation and focus for the three CommDev SAQA qualifications frameworks at NQF levels 4, 5 and 8. The development of these qualification frameworks has ensured: a) consistency and uniformity in the implementation of unit standards; b) linkage of community development professional needs to specialised qualifications; c) compliance of community development qualifications with relevant legislation and regulations; and, ultimately, d) commencement of the process towards professionalisation of community development.
